Women's Golf Wraps Up First Tournament of Season

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico " Tatiana Wijaya shot a final-round 3-under 69 and Hira Naveed tied for 17th place to highlight the Pepperdine women's golf team's first tournament of the fall season, the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, on Tuesday.

The Waves finished in 12th place overall with a two-day total of 880 (296-298-286) at the par-72 UNM Championship Golf Course. Teams had to finish the second round this morning after inclement weather halted play on Monday. The Waves then had their best round of the tournament, a 2-under 286.

Naveed (Perth, Australia), a sophomore, wound up with a 1-under 215 (71-72-72). She had a total of six birdies and five bogeys over the two days, including three of each in her final round on Tuesday.

Making her collegiate debut, freshman Momoka Kobori (Rangiora, New Zealand) tied for 30th place with a 2-over 218 (73-73-72). Her final round of an even-par 72 included two birdies.

Also in the lineup, sophomore Hannah Haythorne (Honolulu, Hawai'i/IMG Academy) tied for 62nd at 225 (74-74-77), Wijaya (Jakarta, Indonesia) tied for 65th at 226 (78-79-69) and sophomore Patricia Wong (Walnut, Calif./Walnut HS) tied for 84th at 234 (80-81-73).

Wijaya's final round included three birdies and zero bogeys. The 3-under was the second-best round of her college career.

Playing as an individual, junior Katherine Zhu (Vancouver, B.C.) tied for 62nd at 225 (77-75-73). She had a run of three straight birdies on holes 16, 17 and 18 on Tuesday.

Pepperdine will next be in action at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Wolcott, Colorado, from Sept. 26-28.
