The 61st-ranked Pepperdine men's tennis team finished the 2016 season this Saturday afternoon at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center, falling to 30th-ranked San Diego 4-0 in the West Coast Conference Championship Final.

The Waves pulled out all the stops in doubles play, picking up a win on court two, but the opposition prevailed on courts one and three to pull ahead 1-0 heading into singles competition. Then, on the singles side, San Diego came out strong and amassed three victories over Pepperdine to earn the 4-0 WCC title match.

Sophomore Pedro Iamachkine
(Lima, Peru/Nebraska HS) earned WCC All-Tournament for number three position singles and sophomore Lautaro Pane (Puerto Madryn, Argentina/SEADEA) and junior Tom Hill (Birmingham, England/K12 International Academy) picked up WCC All-Tournament third position doubles honors.

Pepperdine ends 2016 14-11 overall and 6-3 in West Coast Conference play.

To open with doubles, USD struck first with an uncontested win on court one. Then, Pane and Hill countered with a 6-4 win on court three to even the action on court three. The Toreros were intent on finishing hard on court two, however, and pulled out a 6-4 victory themselves to go up 1-0.

The Toreros then defeated the Waves with wins on courts one, two and four to come away with the WCC crowns. Iamachkine was battling on court four with a 6-3, 5-2 advantage and junior Stefan Menichella (Santa Barbara, Calif./University HS) had just tied his match with a win in set two when the match was clinched by the opposition.
