Women's Golf Takes Third at Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational

KANE'OHE, O'ahu, Hawai'i " The Pepperdine women's golf team posted a season-best third-place finish at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational on Wednesday while Marissa Chow and Hira Naveed both tied for fourth place.

The Waves also finished with their best team score of the season, an even-par 864 (294-282-288) at the par-72 Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course. The only teams to finish ahead of Pepperdine were #10 Oklahoma State and #28 Texas A&M, which tied for first place at 4-under. Golfstat showed the Waves in first place briefly two-thirds of the way through the round before the Cowgirls and Aggies pulled away.

Chow (Honolulu, Hawai'i/Iolani HS), a senior, picked up her fourth top-10 finish of the season and the 17th of her career. Naveed (Perth, Australia), a freshman who enrolled in January, earned her first. Both finished with 4-under 212s.

Chow shot 73-68-71 over the two days, while Naveed was 69-71-72. Naveed led the team (and was third overall in the tournament) with 13 birdies, while Chow had 11. Naveed had four in the final round, and Chow had three.

Also in the lineup, sophomore Tatiana Wijaya (Jakarta, Indonesia) tied for 13th place at 220 (77-72-71), freshman Patricia Wong (Walnut, Calif./Walnut HS) tied for 18th at 222 (77-71-74) and sophomore Katherine Zhu (Vancouver, B.C.) tied for 40th at 230 (75-76-79). Wijaya had two birdies and an eagle during her 1-under round today.

Playing as individuals, freshman Hannah Haythorne (Honolulu, Hawai'i/IMG Academy) tied for 24th place at 224 (75-73-76) and junior Alessandra Arza (Asuncion, Paraguay) tied for 71st at 240 (81-79-80).

Pepperdine will play its final tournament prior to the West Coast Conference Championships at the Silverado Showdown in Napa, Calif., from April 3-5.
