Chow Leads Waves at Second Round of Regional Challenge

PALOS VERDES, Calif. " Marissa Chow tied the best round of the day with a 2-under 69 to lead the Pepperdine women's golf team during Monday's second round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge.

Chow (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani HS) jumped 35 spots in the individual standings and up to a tie for 15th place with a two-day total of 146 (77-69). The two-time All-American had five birdies on the day, including four in her final five holes. Chow was only one of five players to finish in the red on Monday.

She helped Pepperdine improve its team score by 10 strokes and move up two spots on the leaderboard and into 11th place. The Waves have shot a total of 608 (309-299) at the par-71 Palos Verdes Golf Club. The third and final round of the spring's opening tournament is on Tuesday.

The tournament features Golfstat's top three teams in the country and 11 top 25 teams. Fourteen of the 16 are ranked in the top 50. Some of the teams that the Waves are currently in front of are #20 UNLV, #23 Michigan State, #45 Wake Forest and #50 Ohio State.

Also in the lineup, freshman Hira Naveed (Perth, Australia) is tied for 35th place at 150 (76-74), freshman Hannah Haythorne (Honolulu, Hawaii/IMG Academy) is tied for 48th at 155 (77-78), freshman Patricia Wong (Walnut, Calif./Walnut HS) is tied for 60th at 157 (79-78) and sophomore Tatiana Wijaya (Jakarta, Indonesia) is tied for 84th at 164 (84-80).

Sophomore Katherine Zhu (Vancouver, B.C.), playing as an individual, is tied for 41st place at 152 (75-77).

Naveed and Zhu each had two birdies on the day.
