Round 1 Results

PALOS VERDES, Calif. " Playing against an extremely strong field, the Pepperdine women's golf team got the spring season underway on Sunday with the first round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge.

The Waves shot a 309 at the par-71 Palos Verdes Golf Club and are tied for 13th place with 23rd-ranked Michigan State. The tournament features Golfstat's top three teams in the country and 11 top 25 teams. Fourteen of the 16 are ranked in the top 50. The Waves are currently in front of #20 UNLV and #45 Wake Forest.

Making her collegiate debut, freshman Hira Naveed (Perth, Australia) led the five players in the lineup with a 76, good for a tie for 42nd place.

Freshman Hannah Haythorne (Honolulu, Hawaii/IMG Academy) and senior Marissa Chow (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani HS) are tied for 50th with 77s, freshman Patricia Wong (Walnut, Calif./Walnut HS) is tied for 65th at 79 and sophomore Tatiana Wijaya (Jakarta, Indonesia) is 88th with an 84.

The Waves' best round of the day was turned in by sophomore Katherine Zhu (Vancouver, B.C.), who is playing as an individual. Her 75 put her into a tie for 36th place.

Naveed, Wong and Zhu all recorded two birdies during their rounds.

The second round is on Monday and the third and final round is on Tuesday.
