MALIBU, Calif. - The No. 17-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis team opened the week with a 4-3 win over No. 27-ranked Arizona State this Monday afternoon, propelling to victory with four consecutive singles victories.

Despite going down to start as ASU (3-2) took the doubles point with two wins to one, the Waves (4-1) stepped up big in singles to garner the victory. After going down 2-0, the waves picked up four straight wins to clinch the win. This win marks the second win over top-30 ranked competition in the last three weeks.

Senior Matea Cutura struck first, dominating the court for a 6-3, 6-3 win over Ebony Panoho to start the Waves' winning ways. No. 67-ranked Dzina Milovanovic then took down Stephanie Vlad, 6-3, 6-4 to even the score 2-2.

Freshman Luisa Stefani, ranked No. 6, edged Pepperdine to a 3-2 lead with her defeat of No. 36-ranked Desirae Krawczyk, 6-1, 4-6, 6-0. Sophomore Laura Gulbe then put in a hard-fought battle, taking down No. 98 Kassidy Jump with 6-4 and 7-6 (8-6) final sets to clinch the Waves' win.

In doubles play, No. 18-ranked pair Stefani and Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai took down Desirae Krawczyk and Stephanie Vlad, 6-2, to give the Waves the advantage. The Sun Devils then rallied back, as No. 54-ranked Ebony Panoho and Alexandra Osborne defeated No. 3-ranked Cutura and Christine Maddox. No. 57-ranked Gulbe and Milovanovic then dropped 7-5 to Kassidy Jump and Sammi Hampton.
