MALIBU, Calif. " The No. 9 Pepperdine men's water polo team dropped its final home game of the season, falling to No. 3 California 12-7 on Sunday.
The Waves honored their five seniors, Robert Beck, Cristian Bridley, Jonathan Hirsch, Reid Lazzarini and Brock Liebhardt, before the game.
Pepperdine falls to 12-11 with the loss while Cal moves to 17-3 on the year. The Waves will play their final game of the regular season on Friday when they travel to Santa Barbara.
The Golden Bears went up 5-1 after one half of play, but Pepperdine finally got its offense going in the third period with four goals. Cal would also score four in the third to maintain its lead, though.
Sean Thomas scored twice in the third as the Waves would close to within two goals early in the period. Cal finished the third with two goals from Luca Cupido to stay ahead by four.
Zack Rhodes posted eight saves in the game for Pepperdine and Lazar Andric had 18 saves for the Golden Bears.
The Waves will head to the Golden Coast Conference tournament following Friday's regular-season finale. The conference tournament will be held at Pacific Nov. 18-20.
