
Marko Asic Named GCC Player of the Year

MALIBU, Calif. - The 2016 Golden Coast Conference men's water polo postseason awards were announced today and Pepperdine's Marko Asic was named GCC Player of the year.
Asic was joined on the All-GCC first team by Pepperdine's Mark Urban. Mate Toth was named to the All-GCC second team and to the league's All-Freshman team. In a tie vote among the conference's six head coaches, Asic shared the Player of the Year honors with Long Beach State's Nolan McConnell.
Asic (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) led the league with a career-high 62 goals this season, scoring 16 more than the next closest player in the conference. The sophomore attacker averaged 2.58 goals per game and added nine assists on the year.
Urban (Budapest, Hungary//Diablo Valley College) did everything this year for the Waves, finishing the regular season with 34 goals and 26 assists. His goal total was third on the team and his 26 assists were the fourth most in the conference.
Toth (Balatonalmadi, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Boarding School) was Pepperdine's second most consistent offensive threat all year long in just his first season in Malibu. He put up 37 goals for the squad and added seven assists, finishing eighth in the league in scoring.
The Waves finished the regular season with a 12-12 record and played fourth in the conference standings. Pepperdine opens the inaugural 2016 GCC Tournament tonight at 7:30 p.m. with a matchup against UC Irvine at Pacific's Chris Kjeldson Aquatic Complex.
