
Men's Golf Ends Fall Season With Strong Round

PRINCEVILLE, Kaua'i " The Pepperdine men's golf team closed out the fall season on a good note, posting the second-best round of the day at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational, while Sahith Theegala and Roy Cootes both collected top-six finishes.
The Waves moved up four spots and into a tie for seventh place after a 4-under 284, giving them a three-day total of a 1-over 865 (292-289-284) at the par-72 Princeville Makai Golf Club.
Theegala (Chino Hills, Calif./Diamond Bar HS) led the way with a 5-under 67, moving him up to fifth place with an 8-under 208 (72-69-67). The sophomore had six birdies and just one bogey on the day. His round started with two birdies and he had three after four holes. He had 13 birdies for the tournament and was the event's top-scoring player on par 5s at 9-under.
Cootes (Rolling Hills, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) went under-par for all three rounds for the second time in the last three tournaments. He tied for sixth place with a 7-under 209 (69-69-71). The sophomore's final round included four birdies and he had a team-high 14 for the tournament. Cootes recorded below-par rounds in 11 of his 15 rounds this fall.
Freshman Joshua McCarthy (Danville, Calif./De La Salle HS) tied for 52nd at 222 (74-74-74), junior Anthony Cecere (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) tied for 93rd at 235 (86-77-72) and senior Robbie Geibel (Pembroke Pines, Fla./American Heritage HS/Louisville) tied for 99th at 237 (77-78-82). McCarthy had four birdies on the day, while Cecere's even-par round included three.
The Waves will begin the spring season at the Arizona Intercollegiate on January 23-24.
