HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colorado " Laurie Gibbs won the 50th tournament of her Hall of Fame coaching career as the Pepperdine women's golf team took first place at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate on Sunday, holding off host Denver by four strokes.

The Waves had a three-day total of a 10-under 854 (280-290-284) at the par-72 Highlands Ranch Golf Course. The 10-under is the sixth-best 54-hole team score in program history.

Denver finished second at 858 strokes, while Kentucky finished a distant third at 871. The Waves led wire-to-wire, taking a nine-shot lead after the first round and four after the second.

The NCAA does not keep coaching records, but it's believed that Gibbs, who is in her 24th season and was inducted into the WGCA Hall of Fame in 2015, is one of just a very few who have earned 50 career tournament wins. The Waves captured their first title since the 2015 West Coast Conference Championships.

"I am very proud of the team," Gibbs said. "Being in the lead each day and all the pressure that comes with it was such a great experience. That will help us in future tournaments. Fifty wins was only achieved because our program has been blessed with so many talented student-athletes."

Three Waves finished in the top five, as sophomore Hira Naveed (Perth, Australia) took second place, junior Tatiana Wijaya (Jakarta, Indonesia) tied for third and sophomore Patricia Wong (Walnut, Calif./Walnut HS) tied for fourth. All three posted career-best finishes.

Naveed ended with a 4-under 213 (70-70-72). She entered the final round as the co-leader but Denver's Sophie Newlove shot 2-under on Sunday to Naveed's even-par. Naveed had two birdies on the day and 10 for the tournament.

Wijaya moved up eight spots in the standings thanks to the Waves' best round of the tournament, a 4-under 68, giving her a 3-under 213 (70-75-68). Her nearly perfect day included a birdie on the first hole, two in the middle of the round and two on her final two holes. She had a team-best 13 birdies for the event.

Wong tied for fourth place with a 2-under 214 (70-72-72). She had five birdies on Sunday (11 for the tournament), including three in a row late in the round to get back to even-par on the day and to help seal Pepperdine's team victory.

Junior Katherine Zhu (Vancouver, B.C.) tied for 19th at 218 (70-73-75) and sophomore Hannah Haythorne (Honolulu, Hawai'i/IMG Academy) tied for 27th at 220 (72-76-72). Playing as an individual, senior Alessandra Arza (Asuncion, Paraguay) tied for 19th at 218 (70-73-75). That was Arza's first career top-20 finish.

The Waves will close out the fall season at the Stanford Intercollegiate next weekend (Friday-Sunday, Oct. 14-16).
