SARATOGA, Calif. -- The eighth-ranked Pepperdine men's water polo team faced off with the team it was tied with in the national polls on Saturday, falling 10-9 to UC Davis on the road.
The Waves fall to 11-10 with the non-conference loss, while UC Davis moves to 19-4.
Pepperdine led at the half, but was outscored by one goal in each of the final two periods to eventually fall by one. Marko Asic scored three goals in the game to lead the Waves and Zack Rhodes posted 12 saves in goal.
The Waves scored three times going into the break to take a 4-3 lead at the half, getting goals from Mark Urban, Mate Toth and Sean Thomas. Pepperdine went up 6-4 in the third quarter, but the Aggies went on a 3-1 run to close the quarter tied at 7-7. A 3-2 fourth quarter for UC Davis sealed by a goal with 2:24 to play notched the win for the home team.
Ido Goldschmidt and Marcus Anderson scored two goals each for UC Davis and Spencer Creed posted 11 saves. Urban and Toth each had two goal days for the Waves.
Pepperdine returns to Malibu for home games against UC Irvine on Friday and California on Sunday.
