MALIBU, Calif. - Mark Urban scored the game-winner with 1:13 to play and then grabbed a steal on the final possession to seal a 7-6 win over Loyola Marymount for the No. 8 Pepperdine men's water polo team.
The win moves the Waves to 10-8 on the year and drops LMU to 6-10. Pepperdine now has two wins over its PCH Cup rival this season.
The Lions tied the game with 5:47 to play on a goal by Dayne Jagga. Pepperdine came back and got the ball to Urban (Budapest, Hungary//Diablo Valley College) on the right side, and the junior slotted it in the top right corner for the winner.
In what was a back and forth game, Kenneth Keller (Long Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos HS) gave the Waves a lead early in the fourth quarter, scoring with 7:29 to play on a nice give-and-go fastbreak with Charles Olsen (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica HS). LMU had a lead late in the third quarter, but Sean Thomas (Covina, Calif./Loyola HS) scored from the outside with 26 seconds in the quarter to tie it up at 5-5.
Urban led the Waves with two goals on the day and Keller had three assists. Jagga scored two goals for the Lions.
Zack Rhodes (Palm Desert, Calif./Palm Desert HS) had a big day in the net for the Waves, making 15 saves and grabbing four steals.
