Oct. 14, 2016 Round 1 Results 
PALO ALTO, California " Katherine Zhu of the Pepperdine women's golf team is in the top 20 after Friday's first round of the Stanford Intercollegiate.
The Waves are in a tie for 11th place against a remarkably tough field after an opening-round score of a 302 at the par-71 Stanford Golf Course. There are seven top-25 teams ahead of the Waves right now, while Pepperdine (ranked #37) is currently tied with #16 Oklahoma State and is ahead of three higher-ranked schools (#31 San Diego State, #38 Colorado and #28 San Jose State).
Zhu (Vancouver, B.C.), a junior who has posted top-20 finishes in the past two tournaments, is tied for 18th place after a 2-over 73.
Sophomore Hira Naveed (Perth, Australia) is tied for 40th after a 75, sophomore Hannah Haythorne (Honolulu, Hawai'i/IMG Academy) is tied for 50th after a 76, sophomore Patricia Wong (Walnut, Calif./Walnut HS) is tied for 62nd after a 78 and junior Tatiana Wijaya (Jakarta, Indonesia) is tied for 72nd after a 79. Naveed, Wijaya and Wong all had two birdies on the day.
The second round is Saturday and the third and final round is Sunday. The Waves are coming off a victory at last weekend's Ron Moore Intercollegiate in Colorado. This is the final tournament of the fall season.
