WOLCOTT, Colo. " The Pepperdine women's golf team had a much-improved second round on Tuesday at the Golfweek Conference Challenge and that allowed the Waves to move up three spots on the leaderboard.
The Waves shot a 297 at the par-72 Fazio Course at Red Sky Golf Club on Tuesday, which tied for the third-best round of the day. That gave Pepperdine a two-day total of 611 (314-297) and moved them up into ninth place. The third and final round is on Wednesday with an 8:30 a.m. MT shotgun start.
The Golfweek Conference Challenge brings together one school from 18 different conferences. Pepperdine won the inaugural tournament in 2009 and again in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
All five Waves improved their score from the first round. Freshman Patricia Wong (Walnut, Calif./Walnut HS) leads the Waves, as she is tied for 21st place at 150 (77-73). Sophomore Tatiana Wijaya (Jakarta, Indonesia/Shenton College) is tied for 28th place at 152 (77-75), as is senior Marissa Chow (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani HS) with a 78-74. Freshman Hannah Haythorne (Honolulu, Hawaii/IMG Academy) is tied for 63rd at 159 (84-75) and sophomore Katherine Zhu (Vancouver, B.C./Zhuji Hailiang Private School) is tied for 66th at 160 (82-78).
Wong had a team-high five birdies on the day, while Chow and Haythorne each had three.
