WOLCOTT, Colo. " The Pepperdine women's golf team, winner of the last three Golfweek Conference Challenge titles, has some work to do to get back into contention after Monday's first round of the 2015 event.

The Waves shot an opening-round 314 at the par-72 Fazio Course at Red Sky Golf Club and are tied for 12th place overall with Nebraska. The second round is Tuesday and the third round is Wednesday.

The Golfweek Conference Challenge brings together one school from 18 different conferences. Pepperdine won the inaugural tournament in 2009 and again in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Freshman Patricia Wong (Walnut, Calif./Walnut HS) and sophomore Tatiana Wijaya (Jakarta, Indonesia/Shenton College) are both tied for 30th place after 77s, senior Marissa Chow (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani HS) is tied for 44th at 78, sophomore Katherine Zhu (Vancouver, B.C./Zhuji Hailiang Private School) is tied for 73rd at 82 and freshman Hannah Haythorne (Honolulu, Hawaii/IMG Academy) is tied for 80th at 84.

Wong and Haythorne each had a team-high three birdies while Chow and Wijaya both had two.
