MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's soccer team went 2-0 to start the season last week thanks to a pair of 1-0 overtime wins. Back-ending both shutouts was Pepperdine keeper Hannah Seabert, earning her the first WCC Player of the Week honor of the season.
It is the first Player of the Week honor of Seabert's already impressive career. She is the first Pepperdine goalkeeper to earn the award since Roxane Barker in 2012.
Seabert (Riverside, Calif./Woodcrest Christian HS) grabbed six saves on the week, holding off the opposition into overtime in each game this week until her team could score. The Waves won both contests 1-0 in extra time. One of her six saves came with just seconds left in the second game of the week as she snagged a header that was put on target by an NC State forward to save the game for the Waves. She also made a key late save against CSUN, poking a ball up and over the goal that looked to be headed just under the crossbar.
Seabert is coming off a season in which she led the WCC with nine shutouts and a 0.67 goals against average. She was named to last year's NSCAA All-West Region third team.
Pepperdine takes its 2-0 record up against No. 14 Wisconsin (Friday) and Iowa State (Sunday) this week. Both of those games will be played at home.
