Aug. 20, 2015 MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine Women's Basketball Head Coach Ryan Weisenberg announced the latest addition to his coaching staff this week with the hiring of Lacey Burns.
Burns comes to Pepperdine with both prep and collegiate coaching experience, as well as an accomplished playing resume. Burns most recently served as the head women's coach at her alma mater, San Clemente High School, and previously was an assistant at Vanguard and Cal Poly Pomona.
Burns was named the head coach at San Clemente HS prior to the 2011-12 season and in four years she led the team to a 70-34 record and 28-5 mark in league play. Burns guided the Tritons to South Coast League championships each of the last three seasons and to the second round of the CIF-SS Division 1AA playoffs this past year.
She worked with the Cal Poly Pomona program in 2009-10, helping the Broncos to a 22-7 record and a berth in the NCAA Division II national tournament. Burns left Pomona to work under head coach Russ Davis at her alma mater, Vanguard, in 2010, spending one season with the Lions. She has also spent the last six years coaching with the Cal Swish Nike program during the summers.
Burns spent four seasons playing for Davis as a Lion, capping her career by earning All-GSAC and NAIA All-American honorable mention honors. She helped the Lions to two Final-Four berths at the NAIA Tournament, and two Elite-8 appearance. Burns averaged 13 points and 4 rebounds as a senior in 2006-2007, and hit a team-high 95 threes (41%). Her overall collegiate playing record was 119-9 during her time at Vanguard.
She also boasts a standout prep career at San Clemente High School, winning three CIF-Southern Section titles with the Tritons.
Burns earned her bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Vanguard, graduating in 2007, and holds a master's degree from Concordia in coaching/athletic administration which she completed in 2011.
