MALIBU, Calif. -- Former Pepperdine women's soccer star Anisa Guajardo was called-up by the Mexican national team this week and will compete in the upcoming Women's World Cup in Canada.
Guajardo was a four-year standout for the Waves, graduating in 2012 with her name littered through the Pepperdine record book including still being the fifth leading scorer in program history. She is one of three former Waves to compete for a senior national team.
She was first called up by the Mexican National team in 2011 to compete against France and played stints for the Mexican U-20 and U-17 squads before that. Guajardo competed in the 2012 CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament, scoring a hat trick against the Dominican Republic and competed in the Algarve Cup.
Guajardo had just joined her new professional club, Heidelberg United in the Australian Women's Premier League, in May, before getting the World Cup call-up. She has also played professionally in the National Women's Soccer League in the U.S. for the Pali Blues and the Boston Breakers.
Guajardo was an All-WCC first team and NSCAA All-West Region honoree while at Pepperdine, playing a total of 68 games for the Waves. She finished her career with 27 goals and 14 assists, leading the team in points as a junior and senior. Her nine game-winning goals is still tied for fifth on the all-time list.
Mexico opens World Cup play against Colombia on June 9. They are paired with Colombia, England and France in Group F.
