MALIBU, Calif. -- The 2015 NCAA Team Championship bracket was released today and the #19 Pepperdine women's tennis team learned it will be playing #44 Auburn in the opening round of the tournament. The Waves will compete in Palo Alto, Calif. on the campus of Stanford -- one of 16 host schools.
Pepperdine is 17-6 on the year, after posting three-straight shutout victories at the West Coast Conference Tournament. The Waves took the title -- their third straight and 25th overall since 1995 -- with a 4-0 triumph over first-time finalist and #53-ranked Portland in the finals.
The Tigers are listed at #44 in the ITA rankings and are 16-13 after reaching the second round of the SEC Championship.
The two teams will square off on Friday, May 8 at the Taube Tennis Center.
The #13 Cardinal finished fourth the Pac-12 regular-season standings and will host Stony Brook in first round action on Friday afternoon. The Seawolves are making their fourth-straight trip to the NCAA Championship after winning the American East Championship last week.
The winners of both duals will play on Saturday, May 9 in the second round at 1 p.m.
Pepperdine is 26-31 in its 31 previous appearances at the NCAA Tournament. The Waves have made the championship field every single season since 1988 -- 28 consecutive years in all.
Pepperdine and Auburn have never met previously in collegiate action.
The winners from the 16 hosting sites will converge in Waco, Texas to play out the remainder of the NCAA Tournament on May 14-19. The singles and doubles tournament will immediately follow on May 20-25.
This is the seventh-straight season the Waves have been sent to either Cal or Stanford for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
The 64-person NCAA Singles Championship field and 32-team NCAA Doubles Championship fields will be announced via a press release on NCAA.com at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29.
