PALO ALTO, Calif. -- The #16-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis team went up against #13 Stanford today on the road, and suffered a 6-1 defeat. Sophomore Christine Maddox won in singles to score a point for the Waves.

Playing its fifth top-15 ranked opponent of the season, Pepperdine (13-5) got the day started in doubles vs. the Cardinal (15-4). #28 Christine Maddox (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica HS) and Matea Cutura (Zagreb, Croatia/Gimnazija Birotehnika/DePaul) suffered their first loss of the season, dropping an 8-4 decision to #14 Ellen Tsay and Caroline Doyle. The duo still boasts an 11-1 overall record, including three triumphs over ranked opponents.

Krista Hardebeck and Paulette Wolak clinched the doubles points for Stanford with a win at No. 3.

Lorraine Guillermo (Walnut, Calif./Rowland HS) and Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai (Bangkok, Thailand/IMG Academy) were on serve, 6-5, against top-ranked Taylor Davidson and Carol Zhao when play was abandoned.

Stanford carried over the momentum in singles, taking set leads on five of the six courts. All five of the Cardinal's ranked singles players would go on to win in straight sets.

Maddox provided a bright spot for Pepperdine, downing Lindsey Kostas 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6.

Pepperdine concludes the regular season next week with road matches at Pacific (April 17) and Saint Mary's (April 18).
