SAN DIEGO - The Pepperdine women's tennis team, up to #14 in the ITA rankings, shut out San Diego 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the Hogan Tennis Center. The Waves were dominant in doubles play and did not drop a set in singles.
The win moves Pepperdine to 8-4 on the season, including a 2-0 mark in West Coast Conference action.
Lorraine Guillermo (Walnut, Calif./Rowland HS) and Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai (Bangkok, Thailand/IMG Academy) got the day started in doubles with a 6-1 win over Drew Spinosa and Dana Oppinger at No. 1.
Danielle Feneridis (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake Girls HS) and Michaela Capannolo (Melbourne, Australia/Genazzano FCJ College) clinched the point for the Waves, dispatching Mikayla Morkel-Brink and Marta Stojanovic, 6-1.
Pepperdine continued to roll in singles, winning first sets on all six courts.
Guillermo was first off after her straight-set triumph over Stojanovic. It was the senior's ninth consecutive victory and 24th overall of 2014-15.
Feneridischarted a 6-1, 6-3 win over Marisa Marsh to put Pepperdine out in front, 3-0, setting the stage for Matea Cutura (Zagreb, Croatia/Gimnazija Birotehnika/DePaul) to clinch the dual at 4-0 with her two-set win against Janine Koleta.
The Waves were up in the three remaining matches, but action was halted once Pepperdine was out of reach.
