MALIBU, Calif. - The #16 Pepperdine women's tennis team opened West Coast Conference play with a dominant 7-0 victory over #75 Gonzaga to improve to 7-4 on the season. The Waves played solid in both doubles and singles, and put the dual away in a little over two hours.

Pepperdine opened the day in doubles vs. the Bulldogs (10-3, 1-1 WCC), and controlled the tempo on all three courts.

Christine Maddox (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica HS) and Matea Cutura (Zagreb, Croatia/Gimnazija Birotehnika/DePaul) were the first to finish, charting a 6-1 triumph over Melanie Yates and Alex Bourguignon at No. 2.

Lorraine Guillermo (Walnut, Calif./Rowland HS) and Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai (Bangkok, Thailand/IMG Academy) clinched the doubles point at No. 1, downing Katie Edwards and Samantha Polayes, 6-2.

Danielle Feneridis (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake Girls HS) and Michaela Capannolo (Melbourne, Australia/Genazzano FCJ College) were up 5-1 at No. 3 when action was suspended.

Gonzaga pulled one of its singles players from the lineup, and was forced to forfeit the match at No.6, giving the Waves the 2-0 lead right off the bat.

Pepperdine won first sets on all five remaining courts. Guillermo could not be touched, and nearly shut out Edwards 6-1, 6-0 from the top match.

Capannolo put Pepperdine out of reach at 4-0, defeating Bourguignon 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3.

Cutura and Laura Gulbe (Riga, Latvia/Murjāņu Sporta Ģimnāzija) both won handily in straight sets, while Runglerdkriangkrai concluded the day with a 6-4, 6-1 win from her spot at No. 3 in the lineup.

The Waves continue West Coast Conference play next week with matches at San Diego (March 25) and BYU (March 28).
