SEATTLE, Wash. - The Pepperdine men's basketball team's season came to an end in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational with a 62-45 loss at Seattle on Wednesday night.

Pepperdine (18-14) accomplished a great deal over the course of the season - its first postseason appearance and most overall wins since 2002, the first winning league season, best WCC finish (fourth) and first WCC Tournament semifinal appearance since 2004 and the first winning record since 2005. And the fact that the Waves have no seniors on the roster bodes well for next season.

Unfortunately, the Waves would be prevented from creating any more milestones this year as Seattle (17-15) held the Waves to season lows for points, field goal percentage (29.6%) and rebounding margin (-18), allowing the Redhawks to move on to the quarterfinals to face Colorado next week.

In addition, the Waves had no answer for Seattle's high-scoring duo of Isiah Umipig (24 points) and Jarell Flora (20 points), who nearly outscored the Waves by themselves. They combined for all nine of Seattle's three-pointers, matching a season high by a Pepperdine opponent.

Sophomore guard Jeremy Major (Pasadena, Calif./Maranatha HS) scored a team-high nine points. He was followed by junior forward Stacy Davis (Laveen, Ariz./Fairfax HS) with eight and both junior guard Atif Russell (Katy, Texas/Seven Lakes HS) and sophomore forward Lamond Murray Jr. (Los Angeles, Calif./Bishop Montgomery HS) with seven apiece.

After Seattle got the game started with a three-pointer, the Waves looked good for the next few minutes as they scored seven straight points. That included a three-point play by Davis and a steal and a lay-up by freshman guard Shawn Olden (Tulsa, Okla./Union HS), putting Pepperdine ahead 7-3 a little more than 3 1/2 minutes in.

However, Seattle bounced back with a 12-1 run to go ahead 15-8 with 13 minutes left. The Waves had a stretch with just one field goal in about an eight-minute-plus span, which finally came to an end with back-to-back baskets, a three-pointer by junior forward Jett Raines (Coppell, Texas/Coppell HS) and a lay-up by Davis that cut Seattle's lead to 18-16 with 6 1/2 minutes to go.

The Waves went into the break trailing 29-24. The beginning of the second half was the deciding point in the game, as Pepperdine failed to score for nearly seven minutes and Seattle went up by 12. After six missed shots, two errant free throws and five turnovers, Russell finally got the Waves on the board with 13:08 left. Pepperdine would spend the remainder of the contest trailing by double-digits.

Pepperdine made one of its first 12 shots in the second half and wound up 7-for-27 (25.9%) in the final 20 minutes. Seattle shot 45.8% for the game.

One positive was forcing 19 Seattle turnovers while committing just nine, good for a season-best turnover margin of +10, But the Waves only had a 14-6 edge in points off turnovers.
