
Men's Golf Finishes Fifth at San Diego Classic

CHULA VISTA, Calif. - The Pepperdine men's golf team posted a solid fifth-place finish at the Lamkin San Diego Classic on Tuesday and three of the Waves finished in the top 20.
The Waves shot a 5-under 283 during the third and final round at the par-72 San Diego Country Club, the second-best round of the day and tied for the fourth-best round of the tournament. The allowed Pepperdine to move up one spot in the final standings with a total of 868 (286-299-283).
Redshirt sophomore Cody McManus (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista HS) led the Waves for the first time this season as he tied for 15th place with a 1-over 217 (75-71-71). He had five birdies as he wrapped up his tournament with a -1 on the day.
Junior Frederick Wedel (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS) tied for 18th place with a 2-over 218 (72-76-70), as did sophomore Robin Kang (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./South Torrance HS), who shot 72-74-72. It's a career-best finish for Kang. Wedel had five birdies on the day, including four in his final six holes. Kang had birdies on his first two holes and later added two more.
Freshman Anthony Cecere (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) tied for 25th place at 220 (67-78-75), while senior Kevin DeHuff (Coto de Caza, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic HS) tied for 40th at 224 (76-78-70). Cecere had five birdies on Tuesday, while DeHuff was 4-over after five holes and then had six birdies the rest of the way.
Playing as an individual, junior David Pelekoudas (Irvine, Calif./University HS/Orange Coast College) tied for 68th place at 234 (74-79-81).
Pepperdine next plays at The Goodwin, hosted by Stanford, from March 26-28.
