PALO ALTO, Calif. - The No. 9 Pepperdine men's water polo team suffered a 21-11 loss to No. 5 Stanford on the road on Friday night.
Marko Asic (Laguna Nigel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) led the way with four second-half goals as the Waves had four players score multiple goals. Pepperdine falls to 11-11 overall and 1-5 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play. Stanford moves to 19-6, 5-3 MPSF.
The Waves held Stanford to seven goals in the opening half, but trailed 7-3 at the break. The offensive action took off from there with the teams combining for 22 goals in the second half.
A 10-3 third quarter put the Waves in a hole they couldn't climb out of. Pepperdine did outscore the Cardinal 5-4 in the final period.
Asic scored two goals in each of the final two quarters. Artak Arzumanyan (Glendale, Calif./Glendale HS) and Christopher Dilworth (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks HS) each had two goals in the game.
The Waves will be back in action on Sunday when they face No. 4 Cal on the road.
