MALIBU, Calif. " Erica Ogwumike notched a triple-double and the Pepperdine women's basketball team cruised to a 110-72 exhibition win over Bethesda University at home on Friday night.
Ogwumike (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Woods HS) scored 22 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and had 10 assists, and the Waves had five players score in double figures. It was the second exhibition win for Pepperdine after the Waves also downed Bristol University, 91-43, last week.
Pepperdine will open the regular season next week, playing Army on the road on Nov. 13.
It didn't take long for the Waves to jump out ahead, scoring 29 points in the first quarter to take a 16-point lead early. Pepperdine led 55-25 at the half and would go up by as much as 46 late in the second half.
Ogwumike surpassed the triple-double mark in the third quarter when she rifled a pass to Kayla Blair (Fairfield, Calif./Vanden HS) who knocked down the three.
Paige Fecske (Studio City, Calif./Chaminade HS) added 17 points on the night and posted eight assists, and Keitra Wallace (Brea, Calif./Brea Olinda HS) scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Olivia Ogwumike (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Woods HS) and Devin Stanback (West Hills, Calif./Chaminade HS) rounded out the top scorers with 12 and 11 points respectively. Stanback also grabbed seven boards.
Pepperdine shot 52.7 percent for the game and scored 56 points in the paint. With Bethesda pressing for much of the contest, the Waves scored 36 points on fast-breaks.
Shaylynn McMillen and Aunjanay Chambers each had 10 points for the visitors.
Pepperdine starts the regular season with three road games, playing at Albany (Nov. 15) and UNLV (Nov. 17) after the game at Army.
