ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Pepperdine women's basketball team dropped its opening game of the Great Alaska Shootout on Tuesday, falling 94-61 to tournament host Alaska-Anchorage.

Pepperdine ran up against a hot-shooting home team on Tuesday, giving up 10 3-pointers in the loss. The Waves fall to 1-4 with the defeat, while the SeaWolves move to 11-0.

The Waves trailed 50-23 at the half despite 14 points by Erica Ogwumike (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Woods HS) in the first two quarters of play. Jenna Buchanan was 4-for-7 from three for the SeaWolves, scoring 16 points in the opening half. Pepperdine gave up 18 points off turnovers in the half, giving the ball away 12 times.

The Waves shot 39.3 percent in the first half and actually were shooting 47 percent after the first quarter, but Alaska-Anchorage hitting 6-of-14 3-pointers and grabbing 10 offensive boards was hard to overcome.

Pepperdine came out and knocked down a trio of 3-pointers early on in the second half, but turnovers and offensive boards allowed Alaska-Anchorage to push it to a 63-33 lead. The SeaWolves' lead would only grow from there as they outscored Pepperdine 25-14 in the third quarter. The Waves scored 25 points in the fourth, but it was too little too late.

Ogwumike finished with 22 points and Allie Green (Sacramento, Calif./Sacramento HS) added 10. Ogwumike also had four assists to lead the Waves. Buchanan matched Ogwumike's scoring with 22 of her own.

Alaska-Anchorage finished shooting 45.5 percent from beyond the arc and shot 53 percent overall in the contest. The Waves shot 44 percent from both distance and overall.

Pepperdine will be back in action tomorrow against George Mason at 3:30 p.m. (PT). That game can be heard live on WaveCasts.
