MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's basketball team saw its first action of the 2015-16 season on Saturday, hosting Bristol University in an exhibition game. The Waves had four players score in double figures and won the contest 91-43.
Devin Stanback (West Hills, Calif./Chaminade HS) led the way in the game, scoring 16 points and grabbing a team-high seven rebounds. A total of 13 Pepperdine players saw action in the game, with all but one playing at least 10 minutes.
The Waves didn't allow a Bristol basket for the first 6:02 of the game, jumping out to a 17-2 lead. Pepperdine allowed just seven points in the first quarter and held a 46-18 lead at the half. The Waves led by as much as 48 in the game.
Pepperdine forced 22 turnovers on the day, grabbing 11 steals, and held Bristol to just a 22.2 shooting percentage. Two players scored in double figures for the visitors.
Freshman Paige Fecske (Studio City, Calif./Chaminade HS) was second on the Waves with 13 points in the game and Olivia Ogwumike (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Woods HS) and Kayla Blair (Fairfield, Calif./Vanden HS) each scored 10 points. Blair, a freshman guard, also led the team with six assists.
Pepperdine shot 48.6 percent in the game. Stanback was 7-for-11 from the floor. The Waves scored 52 points in the paint and had 29 points off turnovers.
The Waves have one more exhibition on the schedule when they take on Bethesda Christian next week on Friday at 7 p.m. Pepperdine opens the regular season on the road against Army on Nov. 13.
