MALIBU, Calif. -- The No. 9-ranked Pepperdine men's water polo team defeated the Eagles of Concordia 15-8 on Friday afternoon at home. The Waves improved to an overall record of 11-8 on the season with the win.
The Waves came out strong in the first quarter, scoring six goals. Wesley Sherburne (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona del Mar HS) and Marko Madaras (Eger, Hungary//Golden West College) each scored two goals. Brock Liebhardt (Fremont, Calif./Washington HS) and Marko Asic (Laguna Nigel, Calif./Hana Hills HS) each added a goal of their own, while the Waves held the Eagles to just two goals in the period.
Sherburne added another goal in the second, along with Christopher Dilworth (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks HS) adding a goal of his own. The Eagles answered back by netting three goals to push the score to 8-5 in favor of the Waves going into the half.
In the third quarter, the Waves scored three times, all by Madaras. Pepperdine held the Eagles to just one goal, leading 11-6 going into the final quarter.
The Waves held the Eagles to just 2 goals in the final quarter, while scoring four goals of their own. Justin Cowan (Rossmoor, Calif./Los Alamitos HS) scored twice, with Mark Urban (Budapest, Hungary//Diablo Valley College) and Dilworth each adding one of their own.
The Waves' next game is Saturday at noon back in Malibu as they hose No. 8 Long Beach State for a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation matchup.
