Oct. 18, 2015 PALO ALTO, Calif. " Pepperdine senior Marissa Chow fired a 5-under 66 on Sunday to take the first-round lead at the Stanford Intercollegiate.
Unfortunately, Chow was the only Pepperdine women's golfer to see red, and the Waves are in 10th place after an opening-round 298 at the par-71 Stanford Golf Course. Play continues with the second round on Monday and the third round is on Tuesday.
The 5-under by Chow (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani HS) matched her career best. It's the fourth time she's posted that score and the second time this fall. The two-time All-American had six birdies and just one bogey on the day. She leads UCLA's Bronte Law (-4) by one stroke, and the next closest competitors are at 1-under.
Freshman Patricia Wong (Walnut, Calif./Walnut HS) is in a tie for 25th place after a 74, junior Alessandra Arza (Asuncion, Paraguay) is tied for 64th after a 77, sophomore Tatiana Wijaya (Jakarta, Indonesia) is in 82nd at 81 and sophomore Katherine Zhu (Vancouver, B.C.) is tied for 86th at 83. Wong had four birdies during her round.
