
Women's Swimming and Diving Opens Malibu Invitational

MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's swimming and diving team hosted the first day of the Malibu Invitational today, with the diving and distance competition being held at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool.
Pepperdine grabbed four of the top five spots in the 400 yard IM and had three of the top five diving scores in the competition.
Jessica Mosbaugh (Los Alamitos, Calif./Los Alamitos HS) had one of the top highlights on the day, swimming a personal best 4:31.17 in the 400 yard IM to post the second best time in school history. Rachel Wong (La Canada, Calif./La Canada HS) took second in the event with a 4:39.47 and Allie Carter (San Diego, Calif./Del Norte HS) and Megan Henley (Reno, Nev./Galena HS) grabbed fourth and fifth respectively for the Waves.
Tori Occhipinti (Coto de Caza, Calif./Crean Lutheran HS) was the lead diver of the day for the Waves, scoring a 259.75 to place second in the event. Sydney Newman (El Dorado Hills, Calif./Oak Ridge HS) grabbed fourth with a score of 226.35 and Samantha Newman (El Dorado Hills, Calif./Oak Ridge HS) placed fifth with a 203.95.
The 1650 yard freestyle was also held on Friday with Erin Himes (West Chester, Pa./Unionville HS) grabbing the top spot for the Waves with a fifth place finish and a time of 19:18.12.
In the 500 yard freestyle, the Waves grabbed the fourth through eighth spots out of 22 swimmers. Caroline Boone (Lexington, Ky./Baylor School) was Pepperdine's top finisher in the event with a 5:18.98 and Allison Naasz (Lodi, Calif./Tokay HS) took fifth with a time of 5:22.46.
Day two of the competition starts Saturday morning at 10 a.m. with the middle distance events. The Malibu Invitational will conclude with the sprints starting at 1 p.m. tomorrow.
