
Cecere Leads Waves at First Spring Tournament in Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. - Freshman Anthony Cecere posted the first top-20 finish of his career to lead the Pepperdine men's golf team at the Arizona Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The Waves, playing in their first tournament of the spring season, tied for ninth place as a team.
The Waves finished with a total of 868 (299-280-289) over the two-day event at the par-71 Sewailo Golf Club.
Cecere (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) tied for 18th place with a 1-over 214 (73-70-71). Cecere had 11 birdies for the tournament, including three during his 1-under second round and four during his even-par final round.
Junior Frederick Wedel (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS) had the shot of the day, as he recorded a hole-in-one on the par-3, 208-yard seventh hole with a 4 iron. Wedel finished in a tie for 34th place at 219 (71-75-73).
Senior Kevin DeHuff (Coto de Caza, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic HS) tied for 36th place at 220 (80-65-75). His 6-under 65 in the second round was a career-best score and it featured five birdies and an eagle.
Sophomore Robin Kang (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./South Torrance HS) tied for 42nd place at 221 (75-71-75) and redshirt sophomore Cody McManus (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista HS) tied for 59th at 224 (80-74-70). McManus' 1-under 70 in the final round included three birdies.
Pepperdine was one of four West Coast Conference teams in the field. The Waves finished one stroke behind Pacific, tied BYU and wound up 22 shots ahead of Loyola Marymount.
The Waves' next event is The Prestige at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif., on Feb. 16-18.
