PORTLAND, Ore. - The Pepperdine women's basketball team fell on the road to the Portland Pilots, 80-61, on Saturday afternoon.

The Pilots shot 54.5 percent in the game and got 30 points from Cassandra Brown to pull away in the second half for the win.

The Waves came out strong in the opening half, holding the Pilots without a field goal for the first 5:46 of play en route to an early 7-2 lead. The Portland shooting would pick up, however, and the Pilots took a 34-30 lead into the break thanks to a 54.5 percent shooting clip.

The Waves shot 43.3 percent in the first half, getting 11 points from Bria Richardson (Hawthorne, Calif./Serra HS). Pepperdine wasn't able to get to the free throw line and that made up some of the difference as the Pilots were 8-for-9 from the line in the first half.

Out of the break the Waves evened the game at 38-38 and then with 14:31 to play took a 44-43 lead on an Ea Shoushtari (Los Angeles, Calif./L.A.C.E.S.) 3-pointer. The Pilots responded with a 10-0 run, however, going up 53-44 at the midway point of the half. Pepperdine came as close as within seven points at the 6:07 mark, but Portland pulled away from there, going up by as much as 21.

Richardson led the team with 22 points in the game and Shoushtari added 15. Portland had four players in double figures to go along with Brown's 30 points.

The Pilots hit 23-of-27 free throws and were 7-of-15 from 3-point territory. The Waves hit 5-of-15 shots from long range.

The loss drops Pepperdine to 6-12 overall, 1-6 WCC and moves Portland to 4-14, 2-5 WCC. The Waves will be back in action next week when they open a four-game homestand by hosting Santa Clara and San Francisco.
