MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine women's soccer standout forward Lynn Williams was selected sixth overall in the first round of the National Women's Soccer League Draft by the Western New York Flash on Friday.
Williams is the highest drafted Pepperdine player since the draft was instituted in 2013. The draft selection comes on the heels of the Waves' star being named the first All-American first team honoree in program history.
Williams (Fresno, Calif./Bullard HS) wrapped up an extraordinary four-year career for Pepperdine with a brilliant senior season this year, leading the Waves to their third ever Sweet 16 appearance. Williams led the team with 14 goals and 10 assists en route to her third straight All-WCC first team selection as well as the All-American honors.
She was third in the conference in goals scored and her 14 strikes were tied for the second best single-season total in Pepperdine history. Williams' 38 total points were second in the conference and Pepperdine history, and her 10 assists matched a Pepperdine single-season record. She also tallied five game-winning goals to match a Pepperdine record and finish second in the WCC.
The senior forward finished her career with 39 goals (second all-time), 24 assists (tied for first all-time), 102 points (second all-time), 15 game-winning goals (first all-time) and 398 shots (first all-time).
The Waves' leading scorer was named WCC Player of the Week three times this season. She has earned NSCAA All-West Region honors each of her four seasons at Pepperdine, snagging her third-straight first-team award this season. She was also a semifinalist for the prestigious MAC Hermann award, given to the top collegiate soccer player each year.
This is the third straight year a Pepperdine player had been drafted in the NWSL Draft. In 2013, Roxanne Barker was taken in the fourth round by Portland Thorns FC and last year Michelle Pao was selected in the third round by Sky Blue FC.
