Final Stats

MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's basketball team opened play on the 2014-15 season with a 79-68 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills in a home exhibition on Saturday.

Senior guard Bria Richardson (Hawthorne, Calif./Serra HS) picked up where she left off last season, pouring in 21 points to lead the Waves in the victory.

The Waves rotated in just eight players in the early season contest, but had four score in double digits as the home-team led nearly the entire way. After taking the early lead at the 14:41 mark of the first half, the Waves never trailed in the ballgame.

After leading by six points going into the break, Pepperdine pulled away in the second half, shooting 46.2 percent from the floor to put up 47 points in the period. Richardson scored 13 of her 21 points in the second half and freshman Kim Jacobs (Agoura Hills, Calif./Agoura HS) added 10 second-half points on 4-of-4 shooting.

Keitra Wallace (Brea, Calif./Brea Olinda HS) led the Waves early, posting 12 points in the first half and finished with 18 overall. Allie Green (Sacramento, Calif./Sacramento HS) added 14 points as well. Richardson was 8-of-19 from the floor and Wallace hit 7-of-12 shots on the day.

An early nine-point run gave the Waves a 13-point lead in the second half and then after the Toros trimmed it back to a four-point game at the 14:42 mark, Ea Shoushtari (Los Angeles, Calif./L.A.C.E.S.) and Jacobs each hit triples to give Pepperdine a more comfortable lead. The Waves led by as much as 14 points down the stretch.

Monay Lee posted 19 points on 6-of-14 shooting for CSUDH and Julia Poecksteiner added 15.

Newcomer Krista Pettepier (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny HS/Pittsburgh) led all players with 14 rebounds in the game and Green pulled down 10 boards to go along with her 14 points for the lone double-double of the game.

The Waves will open regular-season play next weekend when they head to Nebraska for a Saturday game. Pepperdine is on the road for its first five contests before returning home on Nov. 30 to play Army.
