SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's basketball team weathered a second-half surge to down Cal Poly, 76-69, behind a big night from Bria Richardson on Tuesday.

Richardson (Hawthorne, Calif./Serra HS) scored 29 points and had nine steals in the game to pace the Waves as they won on the road.

Pepperdine led by double digits in the first half, but the Mustangs came back to take the lead in the second half. Richardson took control of the offense late and the Waves knocked down their free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

The victory moves Pepperdine to 3-2 on the season, with the team's only two losses coming against ranked teams.

The Waves led by as much as 15 points early in the first half, but Cal Poly was able to battle back and cut it to five late in the period. Richardson pushed the action defensively, though, getting the Waves back up by seven before the break with a steal and layup just before the half. It was Richardson's sixth steal of the period and her 12th point.

The Waves grabbed a total of nine steals in the first half and each team turned it over 13 times. Pepperdine was able to turn those turnovers into 15 points to just six for Cal Poly.

After Cal Poly came back to take a 50-47 lead with 10:14 to play, the Waves responded with eight-straight points to go up by five. Kim Jacobs (Agoura Hills, Calif./Agoura HS) capped the run with a deep three at the 8:00 mark.

Cal Poly again pulled to within three late on a pair of long balls by Ariana Elegado, but the Waves knocked down their next six free throws to seal it.

The Waves shot 43.6 percent from the field and hit 25-of-34 foul shots. Richardson's 29 points led all players and were a season-high for the senior. Her nine steals were a career-high and were two off the Pepperdine single-game record.

Keitra Wallace (Brea, Calif./Brea Olinda HS) added 16 points and Allie Green (Sacramento, Calif./Sacramento HS) had 15. The duo combined to hit 14-of-16 free throws.

Hannah Gilbert and Dynn Leaupepe led the Mustangs, who fall to 2-2 on the year.

The Waves will be back in action on Sunday when they host Army.
