ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, Calif. - Members of the Pepperdine women's tennis team were in action today at the Jack Kramer Club Collegiate Invitational. Sophomore Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai was the day's star, reaching the quarterfinal round following a win over a top-30 ranked opponent.

Runglerdkriangkrai (Bangkok, Thailand/IMG Academy) edged Ksenia Laskutova of Tulsa in the first round, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 before dispatching Loyola Marymount's Kristine Kouyoumijia in straight sets.

The pair of wins set up a meeting against #27 Kyle McPhillips of UCLA. Runglerdkriangkrai owned the first set, 6-1, before the second set came down to the wire. The Wave proved up to the challenge, however, and won 7-5 in the tiebreaker to clinch the straight-set victory.

It is the sophomore's second ever win over a ranked opponent, having previously defeated #57 Catherine Harrison two weeks ago at the regional championships.

Runglerdkriangkrai's run would end the quarterfinals following a 6-3, 7-5 setback to LSU's Abigail Owens.

Michaela Capannolo (Melbourne, Australia/Genazzano FCJ College) reached the round of 32 in singles, while Christine Maddox (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica HS) rebounded from a first-round loss with a 7-5, 6-0 triumph over Marta Stojanovic (San Diego) in consolation.

Maddox and Danielle Feneridis (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake Girls HS) will continue action in the consolation draw on Saturday.

Both Pepperdine doubles pairs are still alive in the main draw. Maddox and Runglerdkriangkrai topped Skylar Holloway and Ella Taylor (8-4) in the first round and will pick up action in the round of 16 on Saturday.

Capannolo and Feneridis got two doubles contests in, beating pairs from Cal State Fullerton and Texas A&M. The Wave tandem will resume doubles action in the quarterfinals.

The Jack Kramer Club Collegiate Invitational runs through Sunday.
