PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Lorraine Guillermo of the Pepperdine women's tennis team saw her run at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships come to an end today. The senior reached the round of 16 in the national tournament before bowing out.

Guillermo (Walnut, Calif./Rowland HS) entered the championships as one of the top-24 individuals from across the nation to receive an entry into the main draw. The remaining spots in the 32-person bracket were filled with qualifiers.

She opened the tournament with a three-set triumph over qualifier Rachel Pierson out of Texas A&M in the round of 32.

Today she was faced with Maegan Manasse of Cal. Although Guillermo out-ranks Manasse, #20 versus #43, Manasse carried into the match a fair amount of momentum following yesterday's success. The sophomore Golden Bear upset #1-ranked and top-seeded Jaime Loeb in the round of 32, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, after charting three straight-set triumphs in qualifying.

Just one break of serve separated Guillermo and Manasse in both sets, with the Cal player coming out on top 6-4, 6-4.

Guillermo still boasts a 4-1 singles record this fall.

The Waves return to action Oct. 16-20 for the USTA/ITA Southwest Regional Championships, held in San Diego.
