SIMI VALLEY, Calif. - Kevin DeHuff of the Pepperdine men's golf team turned in a strong performance at the Bill Cullum Invitational, as he tied for seventh place. The Waves came in sixth place as a team at the conclusion of Tuesday's third and final round.
Pepperdine finished with a 2-over 866 (278-292-296) over the two days at the par-72 Wood Ranch Golf Club. Pepperdine defeated 14 of the 20 teams in the field, including West Coast Conference rivals San Diego and Loyola Marymount.
DeHuff (Coto de Caza, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic HS), a senior, earned his second-best finish of the season, and his third top-20 result after five tournaments. His score was a 5-under 211 (69-69-73). DeHuff had a team-high 13 birdies total for the tournament.
"Kevin is becoming a very steady player," Pepperdine Coach Michael Beard said. "His off days aren't that far off and his good rounds are much lower. He left a few shots out there on the greens, but struck the ball very well. He continues to put himself in contention, which is all that you can ask for when you're going for your first win."
Sophomore Robin Kang (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./South Torrance HS) finished in a tie for 21st place, establishing a new career best. He wound up with an even-par 216 (70-72-74) and had 11 birdies for the tournament.
Senior Frederick Wedel (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS) tied for 43rd at 220 (73-73-74), freshman Anthony Cecere (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) tied for 49th at 221 (66-80-75) and junior David Pelekoudas (Irvine, Calif./University HS/Orange Coast College) took 105th at 240 (82-78-80).
Pepperdine concludes the fall season at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational in Hawaii on November 3-5.
