Singles and Doubles Brackets

SAN DIEGO - The Pepperdine women's tennis team opened action today at USTA/ITA Southwest Regional Championships at the Barnes Tennis Center. Lorraine Guillermo and Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai highlighted the day, both reaching the round of 32 in the singles draw.

Guillermo (Walnut, Calif./Rowland HS) opened her day in the round of 64 after receiving a first-round bye. The senior, ranked #20 and seeded second overall, made short work of Paola Diaz of San Diego State and advanced with the 6-1, 6-0 triumph.

Joining Guillermo in the round of 32 is Runglerdkriangkrai (Bangkok, Thailand/IMG Academy). The sophomore faced Cal State Northridge's Mari Taslagyan and won 6-3, 6-1.

The two will continue main draw singles action tomorrow, and will also team up in doubles.

Christine Maddox (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica HS) earned a 7-5, 6-2 win over Sarah Gealer of Hawaii in the opening round, but fell just short of becoming the third Wave to reach the round of 32. After topping Alexis Valenzuela 6-3 in set one, the Cal State Fullerton player stayed alive with a 7-5 victory in the second-set tiebreaker. With the momentum on her side, Valenzuela won 6-1 in the third to clinch the match.

Danielle Feneridis (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake Girls HS) and Michaela Capannolo (Melbourne, Australia/Genazzano FCJ College) made their exits out of the singles draw, but will continue with consolation action on Friday. The duo will also pair up in doubles play.

The USTA/ITA Southwest Regional Championships continue on Friday, with winners crowned on Sunday.
