
Maurer, Maltese Propel Blue to Even Series

MALIBU, Calif. - Matt Maurer's six shutout innings and Cole Maltese's two RBI led Team Blue to a 9-0 victory Sunday afternoon in the second game of the Blue and Orange World Series at Eddy D. Field Stadium. The Blue win evens the series and forces a decisive third game.
The senior left-hander Maurer (Medford, Ore./North Medford HS) allowed two hits and struck out eight in his six innings of work. The Blue opened the scoring in the first with an RBI double by Bryan Langlois (Oak Park, Calif./Oak Park HS) followed by a run scoring single from Aaron Barnett (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley HS).
An RBI double by Maltese (Superior, Colo./Monarch HS) and a single by Mitchell Gallagher (Norwalk, Conn./IMG Academy) extended the Blue lead to 4-0 in the fourth. Blue put the game out of reach with a four-run sixth, highlighted by Hutton Moyer's (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS) two-run triple. Gallagher finished the day with three hits, Langlois and Barnett each collected two hits. Jayson Balades (Oxnard, Calif./Oxnard HS) and George Alamillo (Los Angeles, Calif./John Marshall HS) pitched the final three innings to preserve the shutout.
Aaron Brown (Chatsworth, Calif./Chatsworth HS) and Brandon Caruso (Pasadena, Calif./Loyola HS) both doubled for Team Orange. Mat Snider (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos HS) pitched a scoreless eighth.
The Blue and Orange World Series will conclude Monday at 2:30 p.m. Junior LHP Brown (Orange) will be opposed by Freshman Chandler Blanchard (Blue).
