MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine baseball team dropped its second straight game to No. 20 Louisville Saturday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium, losing 8-0. Cardinals' pitcher Justin Amlong shut the Waves out through 8.0 innings in improving to 3-0 on the season.

Louisville lifted its overall record to 10-3, while Pepperdine's fell to 6-8. Waves' starter Jon Moscot (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Palisades Charter HS) was tagged for seven earned runs through 7.0 innings with two strikeouts.

Relievers Corey Miller (Laguna Niguel, Calif./JSerra Catholic HS) and Jordan Luvisi (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame Preparatory) followed Moscot to the mound for a scoreless eighth and ninth inning of work, respectively. For Miller, he stuck out one in his collegiate debut.

Moscot faced the minimum nine batters to start the game, and got a double play to get out of the fourth before the Cardinals took advantage of two fielding miscues during their four-run fifth.

Louisville began the frame with back-to-back singles, and then on a sacrifice back to the mound by catcher J.J. Ethel, Moscot opted to throw to third for the force but the runner was ruled safe.

With the bases now loaded, Alex Chittenden hit a slow chopper down the third-base line that Miles Silverstein (Bell Canyon, Calif./Calabasas HS) handled cleanly but threw wide of first baseman Sam Meyer (Los Altos, Calif./St. Francis HS). The errant throw cleared the bases as Chittenden advanced all the way to third.

Chittenden later scored on a ground ball to second, and provided a two-out, two-run single in the sixth that extended Louisville's lead to 6-0.

Cardinal clean-up batter Stewart Ijames put the game out of reach in the seventh with a two-run blast over the wall in right field.

Silverstein was one of four Waves to record a hit and broke up Amlung's bid for a no-hitter with a two-out fifth-inning single. Amlung walked two and struck out three on 81 pitches before turning the game over in the ninth to Jeff Thompson.

Pepperdine and Louisville conclude their three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m.
