MALIBU, Calif. - Juniors Milos Purkovic and Matt Brown and sophomore Colin Carroll were named to the MPSF All-Academic team, which was announced earlier this week by Mountain Pacific Sports Federation executive director Al Beaird.
The Pepperdine trio was nominated for this award based on the following criteria: 3.00 or better cumulative grade-point average; student-athlete is at least a sophomore academically, completed one full academic year at the institution prior to this season and competed in 50 percent or more of the school's competition during this season.
Brown (Bellevue, Wash./Brown Academy) appeared in 26 of 27 games for the Waves, accumulating 12 goals with three assists and eight steals. He registered three multi-goal games vs. Occidental, Cal and Fresno Pacific and netted single goals vs. both UC Irvine and Pacific at the MPSF Championship.
Carroll (Fountain Valley, Calif./Mater Dei HS) made a successful transition from goalkeeper to field player in 2010, by appearing in 26 of 27 games with seven goals, nine assists and 12 steals. He scored a season high two goals in the 12-9 loss to UC Irvine during MPSF conference play and scored once during Pepperdine's 8-7 sudden victory over Loyola Marymount at the NorCal Tournament.
Purkovic (Belgrade, Serbia/10th Gymnasium) appeared in 16 games during his redshirt sophomore campaign, totaling four goals, four assists and six steals. He registered a single-game career high two goals in Pepperdine's 20-4 win over Occidental at the Inland Empire Tournament and netted additional goals in the victory over Redlands and vs. USC.
A grand total of 52 men's water polo players from the nine MPSF schools earned the title of All-Academic led by Stanford with 15 selections.
