MALIBU, Calif.- Skye Barnett's first career double-double combined with 18 points from Jazmine Jackson weren't enough to slow down the defending WCC Champion Gonzaga Bulldogs during an 80-61 loss Thursday night at Firestone Fieldhouse.

The win lifted Gonzaga's record to 14-4 (2-0 WCC), while the Waves fell to 10-7 (1-2 WCC). The two schools will meet again in Spokane, Wash., on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 2 p.m.

Barnett (Albuquerque, N.M./Cibola HS) tied a career single-game record with 10 rebounds and was one of three Waves to reach double figures along with Katie Menton (Coarsegold, Calif./Yosemite HS) and Kelsey Patrick (Mukilteo, Wash./Kamiak HS) who chipped in 13 and 11 points, respectively. Barnett contributed 10 points.

Jackson (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep) scored her 18 points on 6-11 shooting from the field and was 5-8 from the free-throw line.

The Bulldogs were led offensively by Kayla Standish, who recorded a double-double of her own by pouring in a game-high 27 points and pulling down 12 rebounds, including 11 off the defensive glass. Gonzaga guards Courtney Vandersloot and Katelan Redmon also had a tough time missing the basket, as both shot 80 percent from the field (8-10) in combining for 34 points.

The Bulldogs led the game from start to finish as they made their first seven baskets and missed only nine attempts in the entire first half in taking a 45-21 lead into the locker room. Standish scored 16 points on 7-10 shooting and Redmon missed just one of her seven attempts in contributing 12. The Bulldogs collectively shot 70% from the field on 21-30 shooting.

Pepperdine was held to 23.5% first-half shooting with Jackson leading the way with eight points.

Gonzaga digressed only slightly in the second half, hitting 50% of its shots from the floor (14-28), while the Waves improved by making 47% (16-34) of their attempts. After trailing by as many as 35 points with 6:52 remaining, Pepperdine went on a 20-4 to finish the game and outscored the Bulldogs in the second half, 40-35.

The Waves defense came away with 11 steals and three blocks, and scored 22 points off 21 Gonzaga turnovers.
