NCAA Fall Preview Final Results
BRYAN, Texas - Sophomore Danielle Kang's 3-under 69 highlighted a strong final round by the Pepperdine women's golf team at the NCAA Fall Preview on Wednesday, allowing the Waves to jump three teams and finish in 15th place.
The event was being contested at the par-72 Traditions Club, site of the 2011 NCAA Championships. Fifteen of the participating teams placed in the top 25 at last year's NCAA Championships and all 18 teams were ranked in Golfweek's preseason top 30.
After shooting 307-303 the first two rounds, the Waves rallied with a 1-over 289 on Wednesday. That was a better third-round score than half of the teams in the field and it allowed Pepperdine, with a total of 899, to pass host Texas A&M, Stanford and Tennessee in the final standings.
Kang (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake HS), who is coming off a victory this summer at the 2010 U.S. Women's Amateur, moved up 15 spots and into a tie for 19th place thanks to her third-round score. She finished with a 1-over 217 (74-74-69). Kang had five birdies and just two bogies during her round.
Senior Taylore Karle (Scottsdale, Ariz./Laurel Springs Academy) jumped more than 10 spots for the second straight day, as her 1-over 73 gave her a total of 225 (78-74-73) and put her into a tie for 50th place. Junior Kaitlin Drolson (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) matched Karle's round with a 73 of her own, putting her into a tie for 73rd place at 230 (78-79-73).
Senior Martine de Gannes (Diego Martin, Trinidad) tied for 87th place at 239 (78-76-85) and freshman Liv Cheng (Auckland, New Zealand) tied for 89th place at 240 (77-89-74).
The Waves next compete at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Vail, Colo, from Sept. 26-28.
