MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's tennis team won by the score of 7-0 for the first time this season as the Waves downed rival Loyola Marymount on Thursday afternoon.
With the win, Pepperdine added another point to its total in the PCH Challenge, a season-long all-sport competition between the Waves (8-12) and the Lions (3-13). Pepperdine now leads 10.5 to 7.5.
The Waves won the doubles point with strong showings at the #1 and #2 positions. LMU claimed its only victory of the day at #3 doubles, but it was after the point had already been decided.
Pepperdine had a dominating performance in singles, winning all six in straight sets. Eight of the 12 sets were decided by 6-1 scores, and only one set went beyond 6-2. Two Waves -- junior Anamika Bhargava (Collierville, Tenn./Houston HS) at #2 and senior Tania Rice (Burlington, Ontario, Canada/Robert Bateman HS) at #6 -- posted the most lopsided wins, as each was victorious 6-1, 6-1.
Earlier this season, the Waves beat Denver by the score of 6-0 but doubles wasn't played on that day.
The Waves, who are in the midst of playing their final 12 regular-season matches at home, are back in action on Sunday (April 11) against San Francisco at 1 p.m.
