MALIBU, Calif.- Freshman goalkeeper Bence Valics (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Secondary) of the Pepperdine men's water polo team Tuesday was announced as one of 14 student-athletes to earn the distinction of All-MPSF Honorable Mention.

Valics appeared in 21 games for the Waves, totaling 73 quarters, and finished second in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation with 8.05 saves per game. He stopped 169 shots overall, which included a season-best 15 saves at Stanford.

Valics also posted double-digit save totals vs. Long Beach State (11) at the SoCal Tournament, and vs. Pacific (11), USC (13), UCLA and UC Irvine (10).

Valics made six saves in the 10-9 win at Long Beach on Oct.29 that clinched Pepperdine's 35th consecutive postseason appearance. Against the 49ers that night, Valics stopped a five-meter blast from Alexsandr Petrovic during an extra-man advantage and sealed the victory with a steal in the hole as time expired.

Valics finished the regular season with a team-best 47 steals.

Pepperdine's 2010 season ended this past weekend following a loss to Pacific in the seventh-place game at the MPSF Championship.
