FRESNO, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's basketball team lost 78-65 to Fresno State Sunday afternoon before a crowd of 2,561fans at the Save Mart Center, snapping a two-game win streak.
Jazmine Jackson (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep) scored 18 points to lead the Waves (4-3), Lauren Bell (San Bruno, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep) chipped in 15 with four steals and Fresno-area native Katie Menton (Coarsegold, Calif./Yosemite HS) contributed 12 points.
But as a team, Pepperdine shot just 36.9 percent from the floor (24-65) and made only three 3-pointers two days removed from sinking 12 in its victory vs. Temple.
The Waves committed 19 steals and forced 28 Fresno State turnovers that directly led to 30 points, but the hometown Bulldogs (4-2) dominated the glass, 44-26, and poured in 34 points from the paint.
Overall, the three-time defending WAC champions made 55.8 (29-59) percent of their shots, including a 60.7 clip in the second half and were led by Hayley Munro's 17 points.
Jackson and Bell scored 22 of Pepperdine's 24 first-half points on 8-of-16 shooting; however, the rest of the Waves were a combined 1-of-13 as Fresno State took a 12-point lead into the locker room.
Pepperdine's next stop on its three-game road trip is UC Irvine on Wednesday, Dec. 1 for a 7 p.m. game vs. the Anteaters of the Big West Conference.
