MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine's women's basketball team improved to 23-3 all-time vs. neighbor Cal State Northridge following a 108-74 victory at The Matadome Wednesday night. Six Waves scored in double figures led by freshman Robie Mayberry's team season-high 24 points.

The victory improved Pepperdine's early-season record to 2-1, while CSUN, led by first-year head coach Jason Flowers in its 2010-11 season opener, fell to 0-1.

"I attribute tonight's performance to the two great days of practice we had leading up to tonight," head coach Julie Rousseau said. "We learned a lot about ourselves after the Nevada game and our kids came out and worked hard for 33 minutes; so we're still searching for that complete game. I also want to give credit to coach Flowers; they have a lot going for them on the offensive end in scoring 74 points against us."

Pepperdine grabbed control of the game at 12:08 of the first half when Mayberry (San Leandro, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) hit the first of her 10 field goals - a three-pointer that keyed a 27-8 run, which eclipsed six minutes of game clock. Mayberry scored 10 points during this stretch, including a second 3-pointer, and then put back a missed jumper from the paint as time expired.

Mayberry ended up making all four of her long-range attempts and Pepperdine entered halftime leading the Matadors, 52-38.

Junior guard Jazmine Jackson (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep) keyed the first-half defense with four steals and six rebounds, and possibly could have hit a triple-double if the game didn't get out of hand. Jackson scored 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting in 22 minutes.

Juniors Lauren Bell (San Bruno, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep) and Alex Jarrell (Shelbyville, Tenn./Shelbyville HS) poured in 14 and 13 points, respectively, while sophomore Kelsey Patrick (Mukilteo, Wash./Kamiak HS) chipped in 11 and Katie Menton (Coarsegold, Calif./Yosemite HS) made four-of-six 3-pointers to finish with 16.

Pepperdine shot 46 percent for the game (39-84), including 51 percent in the second half (21-41) when most of the Waves' bench patrolled the court. Pepperdine's subs outscored the Matadors' by a 34-point margin, 54-20.

"I felt it was important for us to get that big lead not only because we have another tough game coming up Friday, but because it's good to have all our players getting the chance to perform," Rousseau said. "The starters on the bench were cheering just as loudly for our subs as they were for them earlier, and I really feel pleased with the overall team effort. We did a great job of making each other look good out there."

Defensively, the Waves scored 33 points off 26 turnovers, and outrebounded the Matadors, 54-35, in addition to stealing 20 passes.

Pepperdine returns to Firestone Fieldhouse Friday for a 7 p.m. game vs. UC Davis. The Waves' upcoming three-game homestand also includes Boise State (Tuesday, Nov. 23/7 p.m.) and Temple (Friday, Nov. 26/7 p.m.).
