SPOKANE, Wash. - Kim Hill had 14 kills and Stevi Robinson had 17 digs to lead the Pepperdine women's volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-4) rout over Gonzaga. The Waves enter the final week of the regular season with a 19-7 record, including 10-2 in the West Coast Conference. The Bulldogs fall to 3-26 and 1-12 in the league.
Pepperdine dictated the pace of the match with 44 kills off a .276 attack percentage. Hill (Portland, Ore./Portland Christian HS) led all hitters with 14-for-27 effort, and just one attack error.
Gonzaga tagged down just 18 put aways, but was hindered by 22 attack errors to finish the match in the red.
Robinson (Hermosa Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS) saved 17 attacks from hitting the floor and now boasts 1,301 career digs. The junior is now just over 100 digs away from ranking first all-time in the Pepperdine record books.
Kellie Woolever (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson HS) tallied her second-consecutive double-double with 11 digs and 32 assists.
The Waves sprinted out to an early lead in the first frame, hitting a .220 clip, compared to the Bulldogs' disappointing -.068 attack percentage. Hill had an outstanding performance to open the match, collecting five kills on 10 attempts and no errors. Brittney Clark (San Jose, Calif./Presentation HS) recorded the final kill for Pepperdine, and clinched the first set 25-18.
The Bulldogs came alive in the second set, opening with a 7-1 run. Pepperdine, who still had Thursday's narrow 3-2 win over Portland fresh in their minds, did not give up and chipped away at the lead point by point. A kill courtesy of Lilla Frederick (Huntington Beach, Cornelia Connelly HS) gave the Waves their first lead of the set 19-18.
In the end, the Waves' 18 kills, compared to just nine on the Gonzaga side of the net, were too much to overcome, as Pepperdine took a 25-22 second-set win and a 2-0 advantage heading into the break.
Pepperdine left little to question in its 25-4 win in the third set. Frederick was at the service line for the majority of the frame, serving up 10-consecutive points. The Waves closed the game with back-to-back kills from Woolever, before they could even make one full rotation around the court.
Every Wave attacker to see action tallied at least three kills and a block in today's balanced team effort. Hill and Clark paced the defense at the net with four blocks apiece.
Pepperdine wraps up the regular season at home with contests versus current WCC leader and No. 17-ranked San Diego on Thurs., Nov. 18., followed by a match against Saint Mary's on Saturday. Both matches will be streamed live and for free via Wave Casts.
